This book presents a comprehensive overview of British travelers in Seville from the early 18th century to the mid-19th century. Well-known figures such as the poet Lord Byron, the artist David Roberts, and the quintessential Hispanophile, Richard Ford, appear alongside other figures identified here for the first time. Together, they form a more diverse group in gender, age, social class, and ancestry than had previously defined the British perception of Seville's rich architectural heritage. Beyond the visual repertoire of contemporary travel books and their original drawings, this study highlights previously unpublished letters and diaries to support a catalogue that brings together the experiences of around twenty travelers, giving voice to several women and some young men whose itineraries and experiences were virtually unpublished.
